Hadrian&#8217;s Wall was the north-west frontier of the Roman empire for nearly 300 years after it was built in AD 122 on the orders of emperor Hadrian following his visit to Britain.\u00a0One of the intriguing characteristics of enclosures and fortifications is their physical manifestations of analogies to invisible cross-cultural relationships between science and society.\u00a0The Great\u00a0Filter, for example, is one conceivable answer to the Fermi conundrum.
